The Evolution of Jog Pants and Track Bottoms

Are you loving your loungewear and wondering if it’s ever going to be acceptable to wear jog pants to work? Well with this ever-changing world that we live in, your dreams may have just come true if you find yourself working from home.

The style of jog pants and track bottoms has evolved dramatically over recent years and it’s no longer a sin to be seen wearing them outside of the gym (or occasionally binge-watching Netflix).

To make your sweats more office appropriate opt for bottoms with a slim leg throughout and with a cuff at the ankle which will counteract the informal, comfortable fabric.

Here’s a few do’s and don’ts when shopping for joggers:

  1. Opt for a classic cut – not too baggy, not too fitted. Something that hangs from the hips and sits just right.
  2. Simplicity is key. You can easily dress up your tracksuit bottoms for smart casual occasions but that doesn’t mean you need to choose overly elaborate jog pants. Choose a minimal pair of track bottoms that are free from bold logos, excessive zips, and numerous panels. Keep it simple.
  3. Choose a classic colour like black, navy or grey – these colours are versatile and will go with most things that you already have in your wardrobe.
  4. You might be tempted to size up for added comfort. DON’T!  Stick to your size, if you size up you will lose the shape and your tracksuit bottoms won’t sit right and will end up looking sloppy.  If it’s a looser fit you’re after, shop for that specific style.
  5. Check the leg length. Avoid an excessively long leg – you don’t want the material gathering at your ankles, or worse – folding over the top of your trainers! Aim for the cuff to fall either on or just above the top of your sneakers (depending whether you’re into the exposed ankle look or not).

Team your sweatpants with a t-shirt and overshirt or even a crewneck knit or a casual rugby style top and you’re good to go!
